Tariff Update: India now has 50% tariffs

August 7, 2025

Additional 25% Tariffs on Indian Imports Effective August 27, 2025

President Trump has signed an Executive Order imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports, increasing the total tariff rate to 50%, due to India's continued purchases of Russian oil. This move aims to pressure India into reducing its trade with Russia amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

These tariffs come on top of the 25% reciprocal tariffs announced last week that are going into effect tomorrow, August 7th. Below are the dates when these tariffs will take effect:

Modified 25% Reciprocal Tariff on Indian Imports

Effective Date: August 7, 2025 Transit Exception: Goods in transit before August 7, 2025, may be entered for consumption (cleared through customs) before October 5, 2025.

Additional 25% Tariff on Indian Imports

Effective Date: August 27, 2025 Transit Exception: Goods in transit before August 27, 2025, may be entered for consumption (cleared through customs) without the additional tariff if cleared before September 17, 2025.
